September is heating up with all of our GRIT athletes in the final stages of their goal fall races. The first athlete toeing the line for their "A" race of the fall season is Quinn who is going for a sub-4 hour finish at Berlin Marathon next week. I met Quinn at The Run Show Chicago where I was working the Team Run Run Coaches Corner (FYI I will be at the expo in Boston this February as well). Quinn has been hard at work all summer and has remained consistent with his training schedule. This will be his second marathon and he is hoping to see an improvement in his overall time, which I do not doubt as he has worked hard for this race! Here is Quinn's interview with Coach Cassie:
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I live in Chicago and work in healthcare software. My goal is to run all the major world marathons, hopefully doing one per year! Outside of running, I enjoy cooking/baking and college football.
How did you get started on your running journey?
I'm still pretty new to running! Prior to last summer, I never ran farther than 5 miles but signed up for the Chicago Marathon to support a local children's hospital. Since that race, I've fallen in love with long distance running.
What keeps you motivated?
Knowing how fortunate I am to be healthy and able to run, even during the tough runs, when others may not be able to do the same.
Do you have a mantra or quote that you use when things get tough?
l like the Invictus poem by William Ernest Henley
If you could give any advice to another athlete, what would it be?
Don't pressure yourself into think you need to run fast to be a "runner"!
What is your favorite workout so far in your training program?
Any speed workout!
We are all rooting for you Quinn!!!!
